I've been playing guitar for 30 years (mostly self taught). The first 14 years, I had all of these bad habits. Then I got the John Petrucci Rock Discipline DVD and that changed everything. I spent the next year or so correcting all of my bad habits. And I still come across bad habits to this day (like #5 of this video). BERNTH is carrying the torch of that John Petrucci Rock Discipline DVD. And he's taking it to the next level. He has helped me tremendously. No joke, Bernth's picking tips and hand synchronization course has completely transformed my playing. Changing my pick grip and fretting hand position felt really weird, so I went to the extreme with it. I stopped everything. No playing songs or writing. I only did Bernth's exercises for about a month. My reasoning was that if I went back to playing the songs I know, I would fall into my old habits. I had a practice plan set for three 20 minute blocks, but it ended up being 30 minutes in the morning before work, and between 1-2 hours in the evening. Once I got my hands whipped into shape, I picked new songs to learn, focusing on keeping good technique. Metallica was my bread and butter for that. I learned Of Wolf and Man, Lux Aeterna, Fuel, and currently relearning Master of Puppets. Disposable Heroes is next on my list. I am far better than I was a month ago. I finally broke through the plateau, and I can feel that I have a long way to go before I hit another one. I am excited about the instrument in a way that I haven't been for a long time.

that reverse picking angle is me and i also use arm motions because of that grip having that angle means my arm needs to be lower so i have no space to use my wrist. I tried changing it but i found myself having a harder time gliding through the strings and constantly gets stuck on a string when playing

Looks hard to tell but he angles the sharp edge of the pick further down (more perpendicular to his thumb if that makes sense) while he’s playing 5:03 , compared to when he shows how to hold it 3:18 , and it makes sense because it feels like he would be scratching his fingers on the strings of it was exactly what he said he does. And this is just my take, I don’t think this works as well with longer fingers.

Great set of exercises! Just yesterday I was starting to play around with sweeping, using a pattern that was very similar to the one in this video.

Thanks. :) I got several tips in this vid, that'll help me do a bit better. I've several disabilities on the left, and will never get far, but I try to get most of what I have. Only two independent moving fingers on that hand (big 2 at least), ulnar neurapathy, and had minor stroke. My attempting to play, really helps.
